Fourteen year-old Hattie and her family have embarked on a journey out west, to the territory of Oregon. Throughout the hard trail, Hattie experiences what it’s like to grow up, and what it’s like to lose friends. As her travels grow more difficult, Hattie tries to comfort herself by reliving memories from her happier childhood. But the trail seems to never end, and she begins to wonder if Oregon will ever be like home.
